Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist as well as a music producer. She received the British House of Commons' Shield, which is the youngest and the first female to receive it. In addition to receiving nine Grammy nominations She was also the first musician of Indian origin to perform in the live ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging star on the Indian sitar. She is a scholar and daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Her birthplace was in London in 1982, and began her life by hopping back and forth between London as well as New Delhi. Her first performance took place on stage in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. Then she moved to Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in the year 1999. Anouskha is yet to be a mature woman nevertheless, she has an impressive career in singing and recording. Her father was with her in many performances for several years. In 1998 she released her first self-titled album Anourag. Two years later she released the Grammy nominated Live in Carnegie Hall. She has performed at most famous venues throughout the world. She also acted on movie in 2003. The role she played was that of a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka's career is still developing and she is expected to do many great things in the coming years. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her growing up in between London as well as Delhi. She then moved to California and enrolled in the high school. at the age of nine, she started studying the piano with her father. Her debut performance on the sitar came at her 75th Birthday celebration in Delhi in the year following. Accompanying her father as his world tour, Anoushka had a wealth of experiences appearing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as making recordings alongside George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was given in her honor by the British Parliament for being the most renowned Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and the youngest winner of this prize.
